My Review (5 stars)

Having read Escape, I had to see the gripping story come to full circle, so The Search went to the top of my list as soon as it became available. I ended up enjoying it even more.

While Escape serves its genre well, being a tad too dark for my taste, The Search goes beyond that, exploring the conflicting emotions of more than one characters. Both Penny and Olly are very well drawn, their sparring enticing and their emotional clashes perfectly timed, never going overboard. I admired Penny’s resolve and strength, striving to find life-altering answers, carefully choosing allies in an environment whose foreignness makes her task truly daunting.

But what particularly draws me to C. H. Little’s stories is her rendering of the setting. Two novellas, and I feel I’ve been in Menorca. It’s not so much that I see it as much as I sense it. I’m not talking about lengthy, tourist-guid-y descriptions here, but about the author’s ability to brand the locations through hues and colors, painting vivid pictures, and that—especially in a thriller—is a huge plus point.

Now that both books are out, I strongly suggest you treat yourself to a sinister trip to magical Menorca. It will both mesmerize and haunt you.
